Airlines, rail transportation to be privatized on pattern of joint venture

State-owned enterprises such as airlines and rail transportation are likely to be privatized, according to Chairman U Soe Thein of Myanmar Investment Commission and Union Minister for Industry on 29 April.
The Union Minister told that the shift into privatization would be carried out in the pattern of joint venture and other collaborative activity, and in the future, the state-owned projects would be mainly allocated into the hands of private sectors with a view to boost and accelerate the private sphere.
U Soe Thein continued that the entrepreneurs may constitute publicly owned private companies and submit applications to invest in the interested state-owned projects.
