Sports stadiums 85% completed for SEA Games

Construction work on stadiums for the 27th Southeast Asian Games to be held in 2013 in Nay Pyi Taw are 85 per cent completed.

 

Max Myanmar Co, which is constructing the Zabudipa Stadium, said work is likely to be finished in December. The stadium can accommodate more than 30,000 fans and host various kinds of track and field sports. Construction started in January 2010 and showrooms, conference halls, offices, gymnasiums, security control rooms and restaurants are also included.  
Myanmar is preparing to achieve its most number of medals when it will be hosting the regional sports event for the third time. 
“Although we expect more gold medals at the 27th SEA Games, we will compete with dignity,” said U Tint San, Minister of Sports. 
The 27th SEA Games will be held in the Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay regions and Ngwe Saung Beach from December 11-22, 2013. 
The SEA Games, held every two years since 1959, is the largest sports event in Southeast Asia and includes 32 disciplines. 
Myanmar hosted the Games in 1961 and 1969. Myanmar won 104 medals in the 1961 SEA 
Games and 149 medals in 1969.
The organising committee of the 27th SEA Games under the auspices of Myanmar’s Ministry of Sports is inviting proposals from experienced international companies for: organising the opening and closing ceremonies at Zabuthiri Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw and providing fully integrated solutions including technology systems and services for the entire sports event management.
