Myanmar citizens to get priority

Myanmar will give priority to its citizens when privatising state-owned industries, said U Win Kyaing, secretary of Myanmar Fisheries Federation.

Win Kyaing recently attended the national economic development meeting between Ministry of Livestock-Fisheries and fish farmers to discuss and find ways on improving the sector.
“Foreign investments are coming soon. As the government assumed there are citizens who need starting capital to establish joint ventures with foreign investors when they come, it would allow the nationals to sell or rent the land, factories and enterprises owned by the state. It would allow the citizens to establish their own private firms, individual or group or holdings through privatisation,” he said.
Reports said hundreds of state-owned enterprises are to be privatised, including 26 businesses owned by the Ministry of Livestock-Fisheries.
A businessman who attended the meeting said the government promised the private sector that it would lend money borrowed from foreign countries with lower interest rates.
