Only 23% under 5 have access to education

According to Myanmar's Ministry of Social Welfare, out of the over seven million children under five years old, only 23 per cent have access to preschool education and another 12 per cent get proper treatments.

The ministry is implementing Early Childhood Care and Development project, and 68 ministry-run preschools, 730 public preschools, 181 private preschools and 190 community-based departments have been established in order to educate and ensure development for 1,900 children.
“To fulfill the aim, other care centres and preschools have to be opened in regions and states. We are planning to have a preschool in each township, depending on the resources that may be public or private or government-run,” says Deputy Director of Ministry of Release and Resettlement Htun Oo.
