Nation U brings English language teaching to Myanmar

Yangon - Nation University has launched English-language teaching courses in Yangon and plans to expand services to include Japanese and Chinese as well as other professional courses.

The courses began over the weekend for two groups of students - General English and IELTS Test Preparation. The courses are taught by experienced native English speaking teachers attached to Nation University in Bangkok.
The Yangon facility is located opposite the offices of Eleven Media Group located at South Horse Racing Road, Tamwe Township.
“Myanmar has started political and economic reforms and education is vital to the success of the country,” said Nation Group Editor-in-Chief Thepchai Yong.
Dr Thein Myint, Managing Director of Eleven Media, highlighted the English language as key to Myanmar’s human resource development.
Nation University plans to expand the services to other languages as well as professional courses including media and tourism.
English was well taught and spoken by older generations of the Myanmar people but has not featured prominently on the education agenda in the past few decades, as the country was closed to the outside world. The recent opening up of Myanmar and an influx of foreign investors have jump-started requirements for quality staff with foreign language-speaking skills.
