China tapped for more multi-sector cooperation

During his recent visit to China, President Thein Sein agreed with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to enhance multi-sector cooperation.

Xi highlighted continuity of cooperation in China’s Myanmar investments, including the Kyaukpyu Deep Sea Port, the ties between non-governmental organisations and the citizens of the two countries, cultural exchanges and promotion, as well as restoration of peace and stability in border areas.
Over the past two decades China had constantly supported Myanmar’s political and economic development as well as other aspects in the country’s progress. “For that reason our government and people are always keen to thanks to China,” he said.
“I believe both countries will further strengthen mutual friendship and promote shared relations and cooperation as well. Our two countries have reached a significant level of strategic multi-sector cooperation and have been partners during the term of my Chinese counterpart,” he said.
“We have encountered some unexpected hardships in our efforts to carry out mutual cooperation. We need to overcome them through mutual understanding and patience for both our long-term interests. Peace and stability are key factors for the development of border areas and their residents. The peace process is of great importance for ensuring cooperation between the two countries,” Thein Sein said.
Both leaders presided over a signing ceremony on agreements for tighter economic and technical cooperation, covering loans for the upper Yeywa-Shwesaryan 230KV power transmission line (129 kilometres) from the Yeywa Hydropower Dam, the country’s largest hydroelectric power plant, and the connecting 230KV Shwesaryan substation extension project, as well as microfinance cooperation for rural development.
