Managing director Ho Yuen Sang said the rationale for the expansion was because many Tigerair passengers preferred to connect to Malaysia after arriving in Singapore.
“We are looking at Ipoh, Kuala Terengganu and Kota Kinabalu as the new destinations for Tigerair.
“Currently, Tigerair stops in Penang and Kuala Lumpur,” Ho said after the unveiling of the low-cost airline’s new corporate identity.
Ho said Tigerair was also expecting to raise passenger numbers by over 20 percent by March 2014 from 4.5 million last year.
“Tigerair Singapore recorded a healthy overall load factor of 84 percent in May 2013, while Tigerair Australia reached 85 percent.
“For the 12 months to May 2012, Tigerair Australia carried 2.7 million passengers,” he said.
Ho said that six new A320 airbus, which Tigerair has leased, would arrive from between now and March 2014. “By next March, our fleet would increase to 26 from 21 at present. Of the 21 aircraft, six are owned by Tigerair.”
Ho said the reason for rebranding its corporate identity was related to the objective of becoming a friendly neighbourhood airline.
“We have initiated a series of changes since last year, and this brand identity embodies the mission of becoming a friendly neighbourhood airline that is safe and reliable, as well as being very much a part of the communities that we fly to,” he added.
Established in 2003, Tigerair operates an extensive network covering 50 destinations across 13 countries in Asia Pacific.
