Petronas officials hit with bribery charges

A senior manager with Petronas has once again been charged with graft. This time the charges involve accepting 13,800 ringgit (Bt135,600) in bribes in 2008.

Ishak Hashim, 47, allegedly accepted the bribes from two Erision Chem Sdn Bhd directors as incentives for supplying the company with liquified natural gas in 69 lorries.
The offence is punishable under Section 16 of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 with a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of no less than five times the bribe amount, or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher. At the time of the alleged offence, Ishak was the logistics manager for the gathering of crude oil.
On July 5, another Petronas senior executive, Idris M Shuhud, was charged with accepting 403,000 ringgit in bribes in return for approving technical bids.
