Stay out of M'sia's 'Allah' issue, outsiders told

Malaysia does not welcome foreign interference or influence on the issue involving the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims, its Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said.

Referring to recent remarks attributed to the Vatican’s first Apostolic Nuncio (ambassador) to Malaysia Archbishop Joseph Marino, Anifah said such interference would only stoke religious tensions in the country.
“It is not helpful in contributing towards ensuring racial and religious stability and harmony in Malaysia,” he added.
Anifah said the use of the word “Allah” would be heard by the Court of Appeal and all parties should let the case be determined according to the law.
Archbishop Marino drew the wrath of Muslim NGOs when he said last week that the fact-sheet presented by the Christian Federation of Malaysia on the use of the word “Allah” was sensible and logical.
The NGOs called for Marino’s expulsion, claiming his remarks went beyond the scope of his job and could be seen as him having another agenda.
