First air-conditioned trains ready to roll

Myanma Railways will next month start offering air-conditioned carriages on its routes serving Yangon, the former capital, state media reported on Sunday.

“We plan to launch the RBE [rail bus engines] trains in October,” Myanma Railways assistant-general manager Kyaw Kyaw Myo told the New Light of Myanmar. “The fares have not been approved yet.” The new carriages were supplied by Japan, sources said.
Improvements to Yangon’s dilapidated train system are deemed an important means of alleviating road traffic in the country’s main commercial hub.
