Former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has been hospitalised for a chest infection and is currently undergoing treatment and physiotherapy.

A statement from his office said that Mahathir had been admitted to the general ward of the National Heart Institute, where he was diagnosed with a chest infection.
“He is currently undergoing treatment and chest physiotherapy. A medical team is closely monitoring his condition and is satisfied with his progress,” the statement said.
Mahathir is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days to allow doctors to monitor his progress, as well as for physiotherapy and exercise.
