Shwedagon Pagoda fees to change to kyats

The Shwedagon Pagoda board of trustees says it will charge tourists with Myanmar currency instead of US dollars for the entry fee.

The change of currency is meant to be convenient for tourists, guides and the board of trustees and also because the Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank refuses to accept torn or damaged dollar bills.
At present, the entrance fee for tourists is $8 (Bt260) and as of April 1, it will be 8,000 kyat.
On average, more than 1,000 tourists visit the temple daily.
