Emergency healthcare for tourists planned

Shwe Zanaka Co will start providing emergency healthcare services for tourists in Kyaikto, Mon State on April 1 and will expand to other tourist destinations in the country.

The company will cooperate with ambulance services, the Health Ministry, local hospitals and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
“We have opened a clinic in Kyaikto to provide emergency care by cooperating with private doctors,” Dr Myint Lwin from Shwe Zanaka Co said.
Thousands of tourists visit the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda every year, but the town lacks hospitals and clinics to provide emergency healthcare.
“If any emergency arises while visiting the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, we will treat them immediately at the place where it happens. If we can treat the patient at the clinic, we will do it but if the person needs to be admitted to hospital, we will contact the public hospitals in Mawlamyine and Thaton. We can also move the patient to a hospital they prefer,” he added.
Shwe Zanaka Co has also contacted social organisations and ambulance services, and will implement a system to offer media treatment via the Internet or over the telephone for those who need immediate attention but are difficult to get to, Dr Myint Lwin said.
“We have installed C-band satellites in Yangon and Kyaikto in order for us to provide emergency healthcare advice. The services are not free but they will be moderately prices. The firm is also looking to provide similar services overseas,” he added.
