Leaders of the Migyaungkan protesters met authorities at Yangon's City Hall yesterday to try to reach an agreement to remove their downtown protest camp.

The protesters, who have demonstrated on numerous occasions for the return of land seized by the military, were forcefully evicted from their downtown camp on March 30 and 31.
The minister of Yangon regional security, Colonel Tin Win, as well as Thein Nyut, who is MP for Thingangyun township where Migyaungkan is based, urged protesters to remove themselves peacefully.
“I decry the forceful eviction. I want the authorities to take fair action for the sake of our country. So I ask the Yangon region government to give compensation for the Michaungkan protesters,” said Thein Nyut.
The MP also asked the protesters to remove the protest camp peacefully, urging them to give up the desire to get back all of the confiscated land.
The Migyaungkan protesters opened their third protest camp on March 24 next to Yangon City Hall to demand the return of land seized by the military in three wards in Thingangyun Township back in 1991.
