Panel vows to tackle land rows

Parliament's Land Investigation Commission will try to minimise land-seizure impacts in solving the disputes in Yangon on a case-by-case basis, said the commission member Khaing Maung Yay.

The ongoing disputes include alleged land grabbing at Migyaungkan Wards 1, 2 and 3 in Thingankyun township.
Khaing Maung Yay, also Lower House MP, said that the chairperson Tin Htut and his commission members have discussed the work plans. The commission is expected to meet with the protesters in order to hear their demands
“We have made a separate discussion with the commission chairperson. We are to meet with the protesters…. We will continue to carry on trying to resolve land disputes,” said the Lower House MP.
Because of land disputes in Yangon region, the evicted victims who saw their plots confiscated have been rallying at their protest sites. Local authorities violently cracked down on the protesters at their rally sites.
