Soekarno-Hatta airport increasing flight frequency

Indonesia's main gateway, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten will be increasing the frequency of flights from 64 to 72 per hour, starting yesterday, in a bid to reduce congestion at the airport.

State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura (AP) II, which manages airports in the western half of the country, is collaborating with the newly established state-owned Indonesian Flight Navigation Service to increase flight frequency to meet growing air travel demand.
AP II president director Tri Sunoko said the move was expected to cut down on delayed flights at the country’s busiest airport.
“With the increase in frequency to 72 flights per hour, we hope the number of delayed departures and arrivals will be reduced so we can improve our level of service to customers,” Tri said in a written statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the additional flights will be offered for three flight slots – from midnight to 1.30am, 2am to 10.30am and 11.30am to midnight.
The number of flights between 1.30am and 2am will be limited to 54 per hour. Between 10.30am and 4pm, the airport will cater to only 64 flights per hour due to the risk of limited visibility in the afternoon.
