Activist Htin Kyaw sentenced to three months in prison

Former political prisoner and land-rights activist Htin Kyaw has been sentenced to three months in prison for congregating in front of Aung San Suu Kyi's home to solicit her help for the return of confiscated land.

He was initially charged for three months imprisonment by the Court of Bahan Township for violating Section 18 of the Peaceful Assembly Law. “We went to the house of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi asking for help to return their land,” Htin Kyaw said. The activist was petitioning on behalf of residents of Thameekalay village who were forcefully evicted from their land by the military.
