“What the NLD members really need is to respect and value the people. The NLD is not a financially strong organisation. It competed in the 2012 by-elections through the support of the people. The 2015 is a year of elections. Those who will celebrate at the elections must be the people not the party,” she said at the fourth central committee meeting on December 14.
“If the party the people can rely on can serve the interests of the people, it will be better for the country. At the same time, I would like to urge you not to be mad about being the representative of the party. Every representative needs to serve his or her duties. Representatives are required to be brave enough to tell or do something. Only then can their duties be accomplished,” Suu Kyi said.
“The Union parliament recently approved the proposal to raise the salary of parliamentarians to Ks 1 million. At the moment, the NLD has not selected candidates for the upcoming election. But the NLD will choose only those having enough qualification as its candidates for the upcoming election,” Suu Kyi said.
“The 2015 is the year of election crucial for the country. If the representatives carry out appropriate matters beneficial for the people and the country in the New Year, they will meet satisfaction that they already did something dutifully at the end of the year,” Suu Kyi said.
“Nothing is more than satisfaction. I would like to urge all the members to make our organisation to be a dutiful one for the people,” Suu Kyi said.
