During the meeting, Aung Myo Min, director of Equality Myanmar said: “They (Malinowski and his team) wanted to know our comments and concerns since they are going to meet with the government on January 13 and 14. We told them that the government is weak at protecting human rights. The weaknesses of judicial pillar and legislation are the challenges to Myanmar’s democratic transition.”
He explained that although new laws have been enforced, application of the laws do not protect the basic rights of the people. The CSOs gave an example of a woman killed in Letpadauntaung mine protest.
