Contaminated water

People living in some townships in Ayeyawady Region are suffering from arsenic poisoning after drinking contaminated water.

Some of them are also suffering from lung, kidney, liver, heart and skin diseases, according to the Department of Poison Control (Lower Myanmar). Although there is no exact data for arsenic poisoning in Myanmar, evidence shows drinking water in Kyaungkon, Kyon Pyaw, Hinthada, Thar Paung and Ye Kyi in Ayeyawady Region is contaminated with arsenic.
The Department of Medicine (Lower Myanmar) and Miyarzarki University of Japan launch a 3-year research project on arsenic poisoning in drinking water in Ayeyarwady Region.
