The agreement was made at a bilateral meeting held in Vientiane yesterday during a visit to Laos by a high level delegation from Myanmar led by the country's Vice President Nyan Tun. The two-day visit until today was at the invitation of Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit.
On Monday, they pushed for the fruitfulness of existing traditional cooperation by realising agreements to encourage the related sectors from both sides to review and improve legal matters to facilitate cooperation, and identify the sectors and potential of the two countries for cooperation.
The two sides expressed appreciation of the success of the 11th meeting of the Laos-Myanmar and Myanmar-Laos joint commissions on cooperation that was held in Nay Pyi Taw earlier this month. They also praised the success of the construction of the Mekong Friendship Bridge linking Laos and Myanmar, which is almost complete and is scheduled to officially open on May 8.
Bounnhang praised the Myanmar government and people of Myanmar in national development, the implementation of national conciliation, and the open door policy led by President Thein Sein.
In return, Nyan Tun said he highly valued the outstanding achievements of the Lao people in recent years in implementing the mission of national protection and development, especially implementation of the seventh National Socio-Economic Development Plan.
The delegation also visited the Nam Ngum dam.
