Health restructuring revealed

The Health Ministry on April 1 officially announced that the Health Department would be divided into the Department of Public Health and the Medical Care Department.
The staff of the Health Planning Department will be moved to Department of Public Health, boosting the latter’s workforce to nearly 2,000. The Health Planning Department is to be abolished.
Furthermore, the Medical Research Departments (Lower, Central, and Upper Myanmar) will be combined into one. The Medical Science Department was renamed as the Department for Medical Human Resource Development and Management.
The Education Ministry is handed jurisdiction over medical universities while nursing schools are to be monitored by the Science and Technology Ministry.
"It's a big change. The whole Health Ministry has been restructured. Abolishing the Health Planning Department is risky, I think," said Dr Si Thu from the Myanmar Medical Association.
