More flyovers to ease traffic jam

The Yangon government plans to construct more vehicle flyovers in congested areas like Hledan, Bayintnaung, Shwegontine and Myaynigone to solve traffic congestion Three are planned to be completed within this government's term in Tamwe, Kokkaine and 8-mi

The government plans to spend Ks 22.5 billion for Tamwe junction, Ks 15.4 billion for Kokkaine junction and Ks 16.45 billion for 8-mile junction this fiscal year.

The public have expressed doubts whether the flyovers can really ease the traffic jam. While the Tamwe flyover may ease traffic due to a large number of vehicles, but the public wonder if such investment would be worthwhile for Kokkaine and 8-mile junctions.

The Yangon regional government submitted a proposal seeking a budget for flyover projects in a special session of the regional parliament held in December last year.

MP Nyo Nyo Thin from No. 2 Bahan Constituency criticised the government’s plan to build new flyovers, saying Hledan and Shwegontine flyovers cannot ease the traffic jam.
