Exporting 2m tonnes of rice

Myanmar Rice Federation sets its sight to grow rice exports to roughly 2 million tonnes this fiscal year, according to state media.
Global New Light of Myanmar reported that the federation saw increasing demand from China, Africa and Europe. Exporters are sending roughly 4,000 tonnes a day by road to China following a surge in demand from the neighbouring country.
The country exported 1.4 million tonnes in the 2012-13 fiscal year, 1.2 million tonnes in the 2013-14 fiscal year and 1.8 million tonnes in the 2014-15 fiscal year.
Formerly the world’s top rice exporter, Myanmar aims to become the world’s top three rice exporters in the next few years.
