The Ministry of Culture announced the find and said further research would follow at the site near Kanpani village.
While late Stone Age findings were common, it was rare to find pre-historic artefacts, according to the Department of Archaeology, National Museum and Library.
“We will preserve these finds in accordance with law. We will also compare them with previous finds and make research. We will continue further excavations,” said Director-General Kyaw Oo Lwin of the department.
Exploration would continue in the cool season and the paintings would be cleaned with chemicals, he added.
Villager Win Bo reported the paintings from Myittha Township.
