Suu Kyi meets Thura Shwe Mann at parliament, no details released

The National League for Democracy chairperson Aung San Suu Kyi met with Thura Shwe Mann on the morning of August 17 at parliament in Nay Pyi Taw.

“They also met before. It’s nothing special,” said Colonel Aung Win Tun, a personal assistant for Thura Shwe Mann, about the one-hour meeting.
A spokesperson for the NLD were not available to comment on the meeting, which came just days after Thura Shwe Mann was ousted from his post as co-chairman of the ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party.
The parliament resumed its sessions on August 18.
Suu Kyi met with the parliamentary speaker frequently during the parliamentary sessions, but no press release has yet been issued about their one-on-one meetings.
On August 15, Thura Shwe Mann wrote on his Facebook page that he would work very carefully to ensure no troubles for the people.
He wrote: “I would like to thank the people who asked about me with kindness, love and sympathy. I will serve the interest of the people as a gesture of respecting the kindness, love and sympathy of the people. May all be able to serve for the good of others.”
Thura Shwe Mann and other central executive committee members were removed.
In the new USDP committee, President Thein Sein maintained the ultimate chairmanship, while Htay Oo takes the positions of vice-chairman and co-chairman. Other positions are held by MP Tin Htut, MP Soe Thar, Amyotha Hluttaw (upper house) Speaker Khin Aung Myint and National Parliament Deputy Speaker Thura Aye Myint as elders; and Thaung, Lune Thi, Dr Chan Nyein, Thein Zaw, Thein Swe, Dr Kyaw Myint and Dr Mya Oo as central advisors; and Tin Naing Thein as general secretary; and U Thet Naing Win as deputy general secretary.
Thura Shwe Mann, still a member of the ruling party, will compete in the coming election. He will run for a seat in the Phyu Township Constituency.
