Tourism Malaysia to promote local attractions

KUALA LUMPUR - There are attractions in the country that remained undiscovered by Malaysians, said Tourism Malaysia (Domestic Promotional Division) director Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof.

That is why Tourism Malaysia wanted to promote domestic tourism during the MATTA Fair next month, he said.

Iskandar cited the Kota Baru floating market as an example.

“You don’t have to go to another country. You don’t have to bring your passport.

“You can now find the floating market in Kelantan,” he said.

He also pointed out that Ipoh was now experiencing a tourism renaissance.

“It’s coming up as a new destination for a weekend excursion and for makan sessions,” he said.

Iskandar said that the main reason Malaysians should travel around the country instead of abroad was the accessibility.

“It’s easy to travel about and it’s much cheaper,” he said at a joint press conference with MATTA to announce Tourism Malaysia’s participation in the MATTA Fair.

The fair will run for three days from Sept 2 at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

The doors will be open from 10am to 10pm. There will be a RM4 charge for each visitor.

Iskandar said that Tourism Malaysia was also working with state tourism boards to introduce more varieties of tourism packages to attract Malaysians to holiday locally.

“We have asked the states to come up with attractive destination packages that meet the needs of the different segments (of Malaysians),” he said.
