Entrepreneur Maneedang Kulthaveesup was attending a creative fair in Germany when she first came across the colourful shades and odd effects achieved with a Lomo camera. When she came home to Bangkok, she looked around for her own Lomo and soon became a collector, joining up with other hobbyists and taking part in various photography-related activities.
In 2007, she turned her hobby into a career by opening a shop on Soi Sukhumvit 39 and was named the official Lomographic ambassador in Thailand. Determined to spread the word to youngsters and attract tourists to her shop, she moved to a bigger space in Siam Discovery last week.
Lomography Gallery is fitted out with smart shelves and furniture direct from Vienna while the walls are covered with stunning photographs in vivid shades that give a good idea for what the cameras can do.
On sale are limited editions of La Sardine models inspired by the canned fish packs and imported from Japan, Korea, France and Spain. Maneedang also stock the new series of Spinner 360 cameras that give you a beautiful panoramic shot and the Lomo LC-wide model with its 17mm ultra-wide-angle lens.
Among the best sellers are the SuperSampler Rubber Blue model with a multi-lens that takes four sequential panoramic shots on a single frame and the Fisheye No.2 Pyton in a snakeskin design that gives 170-degree perspective pictures. The Diana Deluxe Kit comes with such creative accessories as 20mm Fisheye lens, 55mm wide-angle lens and close-up lens.
“I love the functions and designs of Lomo cameras. They’re ideal for anyone, especially those who enjoy travelling and partying,” says Maneedang. “It’s nice to have this extra space as I can stock both the latest collections and limited editions from many countries.”
Other highlights include a 35mm Lomokino movie camera that can shoot up to 144 frames and the limited edition LC-A Silver Lake models adorned with genuine leather that comes with a Russian-made Minitar 1 lens.
Lomography also offers a selection of T-shirts and tanks tops with trendy graphic designs, along with photo frames, scrapbooks, guidebooks, canvas tote bags, leather bags for cameras and lenses plus film.
