As always Khun Songdej is adamant that nothing could bring Thaksin to justice while he was in power and that the coup was the only way out. I find it hard to believe that while untold numbers of yellow shirts were out demanding that Thaksin be brought to justice, we could not find one or two public prosecutors to forward his case to the court. We were too impatient with the working of the justice system, and demanded a quick fix. And look what the quick fix brought us. While you can blame Thaksin for being the root cause of our present situation, the method of his removal must contribute to the problem as well, for what country in the world does not have corrupt politicians.
Saying that Thaksin has taken over Thailand is defeatist. The country has moved on too far from the days of Thanom, Sarit and Pibunsongkhram. Those were the real dictators. They had power that Thaksin could only dream of. Where are these dictators now? Nowhere. And where are their cronies? Nowhere. Thaksin is the least of our problems. Losing our collective heads and resorting to non-constitutional means of removing a government is, on the other hand, a huge problem.
