You’ve of course heard the furore over the Reconciliation Bill that’s before Parliament today, but you might have missed the most furious part, as enunciated by politician-businesswoman Leena Jungjanja.
“Leena Jung”, as she’s known, laid into the proposed legislation with vigour on the HotTV satellite channel that she launched last August. She paid for the channel and by gosh she’s going to say what she likes, but it gets kind of rude at times, especially when the subject is red shirts or Thaksin Shinawatra and his kid sister.
Much of Leena’s anger derives from having lost considerable business while the red shirts occupied the Ratchaprasong intersection in 2010. The other day she slammed Thaksin for (we’re paraphrasing here) “luring red shirts to their deaths just so he could get his money back, with Yingluck’s help”.
Then she got an on-air call from a man who dared to disagree. Leena asked him his name, and when he refused to say, she cursed him. Eventually hanging up merely earned him more poisonous invective. Leena called him all sorts of names, of which we feel comfortable mentioning only “coward” and “monster from hell”.
Lots of listeners think Leena makes sense but wish she’d curtail the foul language. She doesn’t care. “I’m not an angel – I’m a demon who loves this country!”

Director ML Bhandevanop “Mom Noi” Devakula has belatedly confirmed his studio’s press release that, yes, Rhatha “Yayaying” Pho-ngam will indeed play Khun Boonlueng in his remake of the erotic film “Jan Dara”, taking over the role held by Christy Chung in Nonzee Nimibutr’s 2001 version.
Cinema buffs reckon Mom Noi’s secrecy until now was just part of the promotion game, as were his many well-publicised approaches to various top actresses.
As for the 29-year-old Yayaying, he says, “I looked for someone to play a forty-something widowed artist inspired by the high art of France.” Yes, it’s a sex film, he says, but the characters are sophisticated. And Yayaying can sing and dance. “She’ll be a great character, earning sympathy from viewers.”
