The speech given by Myanmar's pro-democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi to the Nobel Prize committee last Saturday was brilliant and magnificent.
By emphasising that “one prisoner of conscience is one too many”, Suu Kyi has turned the world’s attention to those who are being unfairly treated elsewhere around the globe as well – not just her own case.
Having watched Suu Kyi receive the Nobel Prize and give her speech on YouTube, it occurred to me that the audience at the ceremony was as eager and excited to meet her as she was to meet them. The atmosphere was exhilarating.
Congratulations and best wishes to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi – after all these hard years!
