Make like Cleopatra with a luxurious gold facemask at Thammachart Spa

Legend has it that Cleopatra went to bed very night with her face covered in a gold mask so there is nothing new about gold pampering being touted as one of the best methods to ensure a youthful and radiant complexion. Popular in many spas all over Asia, the gold mask, which is very different from applying creams with gold particles, is now the hottest beauty treatment in Japan.
Thai women can get their fix at Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square’s Tammachart Day Spa, which is offering a mask treatment made of 99.99 percent pure gold. It claims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and repair sun damage, while creating brightening effect.
Prior to the application of the gold mask foil, the therapist cleanses the skin using products selected to suit the individual’s skin type. An exfoliation follows to help remove dead surface skin cells as well as facilitate drainage of the lymphatic system, an important component of the detoxification process. The final part is the application of a gel-based gold foil mask on the face and a gentle massage to ensure the gold particles are absorbed into the skin.
The result is not only a luminous glow but a firmness that the therapist says is down to improved circulation.
Tammachart Day Spa is located on the fourth floor of the hotel, well above the hustle and bustle of busy downtown Bangkok. The decor is contemporary dark wood and the spa overlooks the hotel’s tranquil pool. Space is little tight but comfortable enough, with plenty of relaxing chairs, and the therapists are properly qualified and experienced in the art of various massage and beauty techniques.
