Hilltribes to blame for northern haze

It was with interest and incredulity that I read a report in The Nation on March 29 "Haze in parts of the North hits critical level".

It seems that the Karen hilltribes in Chiang Mai and Lampang provinces have filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHCR) subcommittee on land and forests, claiming that the ban on lighting fires has violated their rights. Maybe a counter-complaint can be filed with the NHCR claiming that the dangerous levels of air pollution caused by the lighting of forest fires is a violation of the rights of thousands of people to breathe clean, unpolluted air.
