Givers usually want something in return

Re: "Don't expect or want anything in return", Letters, June 4.

Somsak Pola illustrated beautifully the difference between philanthropy and business. People like Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and many others who give but think of nothing in return are plentiful in the United States, while many in Thailand give but always remind others of their good deeds. Corporations supporting sports with their brand name everywhere or donating medical equipment with their executives’ photos prominently displayed is not charity but business – getting something in return.
Khun Somsak, please write more, but not on the subject of blindly defending the Dubai man, who is definitely 100 per cent business-minded.
