Serena Williams beaten by Azarenka

World No 2 Victoria Azarenka toppled world No 1 Serena Williams 7-5 6-3 in the Hua Hin World Tennis Invitation at the Centennial Park on Saturday.

Playing in front of an approximate 3,000 fans, Azarenka dominated play which featured some high quality tennis amid the breezy condition.

The Belarussian used fierce and deep groundstrokes to break the American 6-5 and held to take the first set.

She managed an early break to go up 5-3 and broke the world No 1 again to win the exhibition for the second time after 2011.
"It's a great tournament. I feel like home playing here. We put up a good show and like Serena said it was a good warm-up for Australia," said Azarenka who lost to Williams in the US Open final this year.

"It's a good warm up before Australia. Victoria is a strong player. It's always fun to play someone like her, " said Williams.

Earlier in the morning, Serena Williams teamed up with Victoria Azarenka to play a beach volleyball against Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn and Noppawan Lertcheewakarn during the opening ceremony of the Hua Hin Beach Tennis Championships at the Centennial Park , Hua Hin Thailand on December 28 2013.

Both leave Thailand right away to take part in the Brisbane International tournament
