Only a handful of the ever-growing number of Thai designers are well-known internationally and among them is the relatively young Chai Gold Label.
Founded in 2011 by Chai Jiamkittikul, the brand has showcased collection after collection of modern art and elegant femininity that have impressed ladies all over the world.
A blend of inspirational and sumptuous elements, Chai’s works are ideal for women eager to stand out from the crowd in evening events. Because of the diversity of the designs, his work is not only a piece of art that can only be admired on size zero models but looks equally as good on all women no matter their shape or size.
Even though Chai Gold Label does not hold many fashion shows, he recently offered a special showcase as part of L’Officiel Thailand’s Fashion Destination event. Several of Thailand’s A-listers joined an exclusive three-day trip to Chiang Mai to celebrate the magazine’s second anniversary in Thailand and were ferried from airport to the luxury Dhara Dhevi in a fleet of Mercedes Benz.
Chai Gold Label’s latest Spring-Summer 2014 collection, “Atlantis Revived”, was featured in the fashion show on the second night and had the ladies drooling over elegant dresses with elaborate designs and in a palette that ranged from white, beige and grey to green, metallic and his signature gold.
This collection, as suggested by its name, is inspired by the legend of the lost city under the ocean, Atlantis. Smocking and pleating, the most prominent techniques used in the collection, create figures that imitate waves and seashells. The designer also uses different types of light fabrics that reflect summer and are perfect for creating the key look, the fishtail skirt.
The fashion show included 31 dresses with Cherman “Ploy” Boonyasak walking the catwalk in the finale.
