Just weeks after introducing her new brand Commit a Sin, socialite and designer Pattamon Techanarong took another step into the fashion world by launching her autumn and winter 2014 collection “The New Heroine” with a fashion showing at trendy Hobs Bar in the Rainhill Lifestyle Mall.
The brand is already enjoying support from the designer’s family and celebrity and they all turned out for the show. Spotted in the crowd were Paiwong, Passara, Pupha, Paipannee and Taksaorn Taechanarong, Natcharee and Nitcharee Kijviriya, Chalida Vijitwongtong, Rasri Balenciaga, Mallika Leekpai, Morakot Kittisara, Cheeranat Yusanont, Malinee Coates and Pavarisa Penchart
Pattamon says her inspiration comes from the smart uniforms worn by the military that remain at the core of her childhood memories and adds that listening David Bowie’s hit “Ground Control to Major Tom” kick-started the flow of her creative juices.
“The drum roll in this song made me think of a military march that is very strong and extremely organised,” she explains. “In my mind, I could see their uniforms that were formal yet very elegant and smart. The fine tailoring represents military discipline.”
She also looks back to the days of Napoleonic glory emulating the emperor’s elaborate army jackets and accessories that went on to influence the fashions of the French nobility.
Sternly cut but stylish, Commit a Sin’s collection includes kotinos (olive wreath) needlework to symbolise victory while chevrons and stripes are subtly used to amplify jacket shoulders. Sashes and multi-coloured silk waistbands create an intriguing look for women who want to stand out.
“The New Heroine”, she says, defines women who are capable, hard working and trend setting but who also love luxurious clothes and want to be different.
“They are confident, and front row is where they belong,” she says.
The collection is available at the ThaiThai zone in Central Chidlom and at the Commit A Sin showroom at Soi Vipavadee Rangsit 17.
