Suspicious procurement? The US does it best

A big fuss is being made over the government buying hi-tech microphones at Bt145,000 apiece, when the published market price is Bt99,000.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price in the US is less than $2,000 (Bt64,230). But this is kid’s stuff compared with the US military-procurement fiasco of the early 1980s, which featured $435 hammers, $640 toilet seats and $7,600 coffee machines.
