Thai keeper ready to step into attack against China

Veteran goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool is ready to switch roles and become an emergency striker, after the Thai squad gathered in China with only 15 players for today's international friendly.

Keeper Sinthaweechai is among three players who joined the squad yesterday after they arrived in Wuhan a day late ahead of a fixture whose result will be taken into account in calculating Thailand’s world ranking.
But the addition of the three leaves national assistant coach Choktawee Promrat, temporarily put in charge in the absence of Kiatisak Senamuang who took a break after leading the country to the fourth spot at the recent Asian Games, with only 15 players to choose from.
Former national defender Choktawee had asked for the game to be postponed, but his request fell on deaf ears.
Despite his trouble in even putting a squad together, the coach maintained that his makeshift would be up to the task against the Chinese.
“It’s an ad hoc side. We haven’t had a chance to train together. But, I believe everyone will give it there all – they’re all professionals. I am particularly concerned about injuries, given the small squad. We need to be very careful in that regard.
“We’ll do our best to get a good result. As everybody knows, I just finished the Asian Games campaign but I’m doing this job at the request of my bosses,” said Choktawee.
Of the 15 players at Choktawee’s disposal, three are goalkeepers and the experienced Sinthaweechai said he is ready to play up front if required.
“Everyone is ready to do their best for the country. I’m confident the younger players are all professional. With three goalies among the 15 players we have for the game, if any one gets injured during the game, you could see me play as an outfield players.
“I’m willing to help the team no matter what position I play, striker or whatever. Who knows, you could see me score a goal,” said the Chon Buri FC keeper.
