Whisky brand Johnnie Walker is in a noisily cheerful holiday mood at “the House of Walker”, a tippler’s paradise in Siam Paragon’s Parc Paragon all this month and stretching into the New Year.
Keen to maintain its reputation for sophistication, Johnnie Walker usually only throws exclusive parties for celebrities and other elite types. You might recall “Johnnie Walker & Sons Voyager”, where Odyssey was launched, or “The Blacklist – The Iconic Journey” (aboard the Orient Express, no less). There was a “House of Walker” bash at the British Club last year for “John Walker & Sons: The Prestige and Rare Collection”, but that too was by-invitation-only.
So how are you, Joe Average, supposed to get into these parties? You’re not, sorry. But now there’s a party just for you, Joe.
The door is wide open at the House of Walker at Parc Paragon. Anyone can get in, even you. And it’s definitely worth getting in, because you can sample all sorts of whiskies and plenty of great food while watching electrifying shows onstage.
While the booze cuddles up to your taste buds, the hi-tech “digital projection mapping” that’s on view will pamper your other four senses. Mind you, the Johnnie Walker might flirt with your vision too if consumed without care.
The “house” has a lovely garden, the Walker’s Garden, the outdoor part of the party, which offers a series of doors with Johnnie pouring a different whisky behind each one. The garden is an aperitif, a tease for the senses, before the main event behind the main door.
Inside the House, Johnnie’s most popular blends – Red, Black and Gold Labels – beckon with fantastic food supplied by four up-and-coming restaurants – Hyde & Seek, Roof by Muse, Perfume and Vesper. Here’s where you discover what a lovely adjunct whisky can be to dinner.
Chef Luca of Vesper is cooking through Monday and then Perfume, a “fragrance bar” with suitably aromatic cuisine, takes over until December 21. From December 22 through 27 there’ll be the “molecular gastronomy” of Hyde & Seek. And the Roof Hideaway caters international fusion from December 28 until the House packs up.
Entertainment-wise, the House of Walker is going for sensation. Thailand’s three top fashion models – Metinee “Lukkade” Kingpayom, Cindy Bishop and Sonia Cooling – will strut along a “Golden-Sparkled Runway” next Wednesday wearing clothes made for the occasion and offset in a blaze of multi-sensory 4D fun.
Rocker Foet from Slot Machine will perform on December 24 in a show called “Voices of Fire”, so named to evoke the fiery passion of Johnnie Walker Red Label.
Jaron “Top” Sorat takes the stage on New Year’s Eve to do a Black Label show titled “Smoke Art Performance”.
The House of Walker has sprung up at various locales around the globe, including New York City’s SoHo district and in Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai. Bangkok doesn’t have a SoHo, but we’ve got hi-so to spare, and this time, you get to party with them.
