I agree with your editorial that arrangements should be made to persuade and accommodate the two biggest political parties, the Democrats and Pheu Thai, to work under the same set of rules for the attainment of reconciliation, democracy and prosperity for our country.
Both parties are equally to blame for the country’s past political malaise. The Democrat Party, while successful in exposing huge losses and corrupt practices in the government’s rice price-pledging scheme in Parliament, has failed to compete with Pheu Thai in offering its own economic blueprint that could greatly benefit the country’s poor.
The Pheu Thai Party itself has been plagued by allegations of corruption that it cannot provide clear answers for. Furthermore, it is accused of working for the good of one man as opposed to that of the country – an allegation that even some of its executive members have openly admitted to. Hence, it is wise for both parties to take a step back and do their own soul-searching.
They must share the blame and responsibility for the country’s current setback – and equally.
