How it works in America is that candidates present their opinions and policies to the citizens who then evaluate, measure and decide individually who best represents their positions.
An example of “shredding the constitution” would be a president that refuses to enforce the laws that he/she promised to uphold such as structuring agreements that circumvent the Senate Treaty ratification process and allow illegal aliens to stay in the country by edict, which is also a circumvention of federal law.
Also, your charges that Mr Trump “wants to slam the door on immigration” are inaccurate. He is a supporter of legal immigration and not the politically driven system that a majority of Americans despise.
