Paedophilia a cultural norm in SE Asia

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 02, 2015

What I find strange is that paedophilia in Southeast Asia is ignored if a village ceremony is performed - a marriage where the "bride" can be as young as nine - with no legal standing whatsoever.

I have seen dozens of girls under the legal age of consent in such “marriages” and living in situations without regard to the law.
Eight years ago I took my Thai stepdaughter, then age 14, to buy a cellphone. The sales ladies were all atwitter helping her make a selection. Then one asked her age, and they all giggled that such a young girl had landed a foreign boyfriend. When she explained that I was her stepfather, most of the women sighed and walked away, leaving one to sell her a phone.
