English teachers being judged on skin colour, looks

Thai education administrators tasked with hiring English teachers seem to have their priorities mixed up. They hire according to whether the applicant is a) attractive, b) farang (many Thais think all farang are fluent English speakers) and, c) has a univ

Degrees mean next to nothing when it comes to judging the prowess of teachers. Some of the best natural teachers have no certification. Thailand should open its doors to energetic native English speakers who are willing to teach. Thai youngsters would then be on the way to meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
Youngsters here know all about ghosts and talismans. They are also well versed in the strict social stratification of Thais. But too many know next to nothing about geography, history, geology, biology, alternative energy or environmental issues.
