Which side was doing the killing in 2013-2014?

Re: “Other opinions equally valid, as is freedom of speech”, Letters, June 19.

Mr Grant finds fault with the military intervention but fails to take an objective view. For this reason I thought it proper to correct his bias by outlining the reasons why the Armed Forces were left with no choice but to intervene.
On being reminded that only one side of the political conflict lost lives – 25 in all, plus almost 1,000 injured – Mr Grant calls this a selective recollection of events by me, without elaborating.
That people from all walks of life turned out in the millions to protest against a corrupt regime is no myth, and neither is the resulting loss of life. Some of the injured are still undergoing treatment and rehabilitation. There is no record of loss of life on the so-called other side. Mr Grant offers not one word in response to these inhumane acts, nor do I recall any letter from him to condemn the brutality.
Freedom of expression is not and never was an issue. I was merely responding to his one-sided presentation of events.
Finally, my advice – to do something positive instead of finding fault with the junta – was directed at Mr Grant and not at other foreigners living in this country. I know of several who have contributed in one way or another and have shown loyalty to the monarchy. The truth of Mr Grant’s claim to be making a positive contribution is yet to be demonstrated. Actions speak louder than words.
