Timing of Brexit is UK’s internal business alone

Re: “Despite Brexit vote, Britain remains a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural society”, Interview, July 2.

The world’s reaction to the Brexit vote was somewhat similar to a bomb dropping on the city of London.
Likewise, the interviewer aimed at the ambassador questions of pessimistic prospects. Unfortunately, most of the replies were less than assuring.
With the world’s seismic reaction, if I were a Brit, I would be immensely proud.
Britain – with half the size of California and a population similar to Thailand’s – was able to shake and cause fear in the world including Thailand.
That indicates how relevant and strong Britain is to the world.
Immigration is only a small part of the problem, since Britain has been a multi-ethnic society even before the existence of the EU because of its previous glory as an empire where the sun never set.
The London mayor is an ethnic Pakistani.
The ‘leave’ vote won because of their innate dislike of foreigners telling them what to do. The spark came when the euro was in trouble while Britain congratulated themselves for not being part of that currency scheme.
That was the beginning of doubts about the benefits from being part of the EU and having to bear its mammoth string of regulations.
Was Brexit the right choice? I also had that doubt until revelation of the bullying mentality of the EU in calling for Britain to get out quickly after the vote.
Under the Lisbon Treaty, it is the right of Britain to give notice whenever suitable to their timetable by invoking Article 50.
The referendum is Britain’s internal affair and the timing of the exit is Britain’s privilege. It will be a long while yet for the exit to become effective, subject to which party shall blink first.
One of Britain’s candidates for premiership has already suggested a period of one year. So, the period of uncertainty will be long for both Britain and the EU and this coming winter will be colder than usual.
