Murray Becomes 1st Man to Defend Tennis Olympic Title.

World No 2 Andy Murray outlast Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina 7-5 4-6 6-2 7-5 in the men's tennis singles final

Murray was the more persistent player of the two but it was the devastating forehand of del Potro that kept the Briton at bay most of the time.

After a 2-1 set lead, the Argentine, bronze medallist in the 2012 Games, appeared to be out of gas but he managed to pull himself back in the match, breaking Murray to serve for the set at 5-4. The Briton put up a dog fight to break back for five all and saved a break point to surge ahead at 6-5.

Murray broke that crucial game to wrap up the match and became the first man in the history to defend his Olympic gold medal in the open era.

In the bronze medal match, Kei Nishikori of Japan upset 2008 champion Rafael Nadal 6-2 6-7 6-3.
