Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha should be careful how he uses Article 44 of the interim constitution to solve the country’s problems.
The PM should invoke this law only in circumstances that are of absolute importance. These would include resolving matters that are important to national security that have been left unattended and will become lethal to the country if left unresolved and high-level corruption cases that have incurred massive losses to the country but are approaching the statute of limitations deadline. Areas other than these should be left to the democratically elected government to resolve. Please remember the old saying “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
