SONGWRITERS as well as singers will be celebrated next month when five of entertainment company RS Public’s leading artists, past and present, take to the stage for “Rang Song Khon Khien Pleng”.
The show, which brings the music giant’s 2016 series of concerts to an end, will also be its biggest, according to senior executive vice president Supachai Nilawan.
“As you know RS organises four or five concerts every year, and this big bash will close out the season with a bang,” Supachai told reporters at the recent press conference.
“When our team came up with the concert’s name – it translates roughly as ‘the medium of the songwriter’ – we wondered what it had to do with spiritualism. In this case though, the ‘rang song’ (medium) is a vocalist who sings from the heart and conveys the mood of the songs penned by famous songwriters,” he continues.
“And we are particularly proud to present five vocalists with different, very characteristic voices and a set of songs that are more for listening than for dancing.”
Those five vocalists are Pathompong “Pong” Sombatpibul, the frontman of Stone Metal Fire, Ruangsak “James” Loychusak, Pankorn “Dunk” Boonyachinda, Joni Anwar, former member of Raptor, and Worrawech “Dan” Danuwong, former member of D2B.
“When I first heard the name of the concert, I thought we’d be performing rituals while inhaling incense,” veteran rocker Pong joked during the press conference at Siam Center.
“I will be the medium for Itti Balangura, whose songs I will be singing along with some of my own compositions,” he continues. “And I know the audience will be delighted not just to hear their favourite songs, but also learn about the inspiration behind them.”
Dunk is taking part in an RS concert for the first time since leaving the major music company 10 years ago.
“I’m delighted to come back to RS, which is my second home and will bring back plenty of good memories,” he says.
James too is looking forward to the show. “It’s rare we have the chance to sing golden oldies rather than dance numbers,” he says. “We’ll be covering lots of easy-listening songs penned by Itti Balangura. It will be fun.”
Like Dunk, Joni left RS many years ago and says he’s happy to be back. “I was very excited to know that I will sing covers of Phi Suea (Thanapol Intharit)’s songs, because he is one of my heroes. He was the producer for Raptor’s first three albums too and taught us everything we know.”
“I will be performing songs penned by Suthipong Sombatchinda, who was behind the huge success of D2B and other artists. I think that he knew us better than we knew ourselves. He is one of my inspirations,” adds Dan, who is today more often seen in front of the camera than on stage.
“It will be the best concert ever,” enthuses Phatarawadee Phitayakun, vice president of RS’s concert and events.
“We have so many great songs like Phi Suea’s ‘Kep Tawan’, Suthipong’s ‘Mai Mee Ther Wan Nan Mai Mee Chan Wan Nee’ and Phi Pong’s ‘Yom’.”
