JC Wilcox is always commendably erudite, yet his “facts” are just opinions all the same. Certainly globalisation has led to loss of jobs in some sectors, but a lot of that unemployment would have happened anyway because of the impact of new technology and automation. Donald Trump’s promises to restore the lost jobs and falling salaries of the American underclass are just pledges of “jam tomorrow”, folks.
I would have more confidence in Mr Wilcox’s choice for US president if Trump weren’t so personally awful. He knows next to nothing about foreign affairs (denying that Putin would ever attack Ukraine), changes his opinions as often as his underpants (the Mexican wall was “just an idea, folks”) and frequently identifies himself with nonsense conspiracy theories (Obama was born in Africa, the Chinese invented global warming). The only reason this guy is taken seriously is because Hillary Clinton is also damaged goods.
I predict – just an opinion of course – that if Trump does become the loose-cannon president, he will be impeached long before the end of his four-year term. The same thing could happen if Clinton wins so, either way, we are in the sewer. That’s life, folks.
